It has been a great year for Irish music – one of the best I can remember. Every week, my most played album is between Redneck Manifesto, Two Door Cinema Club, Villagers and And So I Watch You From Afar. And that is without mentioning the other great Irish bands that have been releasing free eps (Nouveaunoise) and great cheap eps (Gorgeous Colours).

And things don’t look like slowing down as we head into the last six weeks of the year. Fred are one of the best Irish bands around there, and 2008’s Go God Go was their best album by far. And so it is nice to know the quality has not dropped in the slightest for their new single, the first track we get to hear off a forthcoming album.

It is called ‘Trial By Fire’, and continues the vein of so many of the tracks on Go God Go. It could fit easily on that album, and sits particularly well with ‘Fear‘. At just less than four minutes in length, the track doesn’t overstay its welcome and sounds like it will be great live. Welcome back Fred, you were missed. Now go get the crown of best Irish band back.
