Jools Holland is back. Well, he was back two weeks ago but he had, er, Beady Eye on it. So that doesn’t count. Not even Elbow could have saved that episode. So let’s just agree that last Friday’s episode was the proper first one of the new series. Now in its 257th series, Later With Jools Holland continues to showcase bands with something to plug. And good ones at that. On Friday (last Tuesday, really), Fleet Foxes were in the studio, bringing three tracks off their forthcoming second album Helplessness Blues with them. The track above is ‘Bedouin Dress’. The piano needs to be turned up in it though and the album version sounds better. But the tracks will be honed to perfection by the time they do the summer festival haul. Robin and the group also played ‘Sim Sala Bim’, which did indeed sound wonderful. They also played album closer ‘Grown Ocean’, which just sounds like a summer anthem. Hopefully Robin will stand up though. Can’t be having that sort of attitude – it’s so 2008.

Also on the show was KD Lang, Hugh Laurie and a guy called The Agitator, who was bloody brilliant. And bloody sweaty too.
