It’s not an official video, as you will soon discover if your press play, but a nice little bit of info about Laura Marling’s new album, A Creature I Don’t Know, out in September. And the video contains one of the tracks of said album, ‘Sophia’, an instantly recognisable piece of Marling folk. But just after the three-minute mark the tempo picks up and there’s a burst of energy. Nobody would be complaining if ‘Sophia’ was just the slow finger-picking parts of the first 180 seconds – it’s what Laura does so well; her schtick, if you will. But the burst of light certainly has that smell of forthcoming album about it. ‘Sophia’, the first official song to be released from the album, shows that things have progressed since I Swim Because I Can, which itself was a huge progression from Alas I Cannot Swim, but not too much of a departure (despite her going out with the Mumford & Sons frontman). You can pre-order the album now and get ‘Sophia’ as a downpayment from iTunes. The title track of Laura’s third album is below.
