You may have heard of Jonquil before. The Oxford band has featured on this site a few times in the past. The four-piece have recently released a new split-single 7″ featuring ‘Mexico’ and ‘Solid Gold Dragons’, but you can download the songs for free via that funky little widget up above. ‘Mexico’ sounds really familiar, like an indie band I can’t put my finger on. I said here that Jonquil are like a more focused Foals: ‘Mexico’ doesn’t dispel that comparison. It’s quite a joyous affair too. ‘Solid Gold Dragons’, meanwhile, is brought to life by some brass, culminating in Hugo ‘Chad Valley’ Manuel proclaiming he is a “serious lover”.
