Remember the girl with the voice that blew away the set of Jools Holland a few weeks back? No, no, no, not Florence and the Machine, who play Dublin’s O2 in March. The relatively unknown Cold Specks, aka Canadian singer Al Spx, needed little more than a mic and an acoustic guitar to compete with Florence’s histrionics. And she easily triumphed. Since then, The Line of Best Fit has recorded a session with Cold Specks performing ‘Lay Me Down’. The song is still stunning, particularly the final 30 seconds, with Spx singing unaccompanied. You’ll be hearing a lot more about Cold Specks over the course of 2012.
