Get your woolly hats out folks, because Squarehead are feeling so Christmassy they recorded a song for the holidays. It’s a cover to be precise, of Darlene Love’s ‘Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)’. I interviewed Squarehead singer Roy in the summer prior to the release of the three-piece’s debut album, Yeah, Nothing. Asked what was his favourite song on the album, Roy pointed to ‘Fear Your Face’, because he was a fan of the doo-wop sensibilities of it. So it’s not surprising that Squarehead have gone back to the 60s for this one rather than, say, just doing Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’. The track is a mere 2.36 minutes long but it will make you feel that little bit warmer inside. It even manages to fit in a short guitar solo as well. It’s available as a free download from their Bandcamp page and features on the Popical Island Christmas album, which you can listen to over at State.
