This made me stop in my tracks when I heard Lauren Laverne play it on BBC 6Music yesterday morning. ‘Silent Song’ is the second of five songs that will feature on Daniel Rossen’s debut EP, Silent Hour/Golden Mile, which will be released in Ireland on March 16. Rossen, he of Grizzly Bear renown, has channeled the Beatles for ‘Silent Song’, a move that’s evident right from the off. It’s a gorgeous track that builds to Rossen singing over his own harmonies. I swooned. ‘Silent Song’ is full of knowledge gleaned from life. For example: “I’ll drink until I bleed, Lord I know it’s wrong,” a line that again veers into mentioning God/religion, which was the main subject of ‘Saint Nothing’ (more on that here). Listen to ‘Silent Song’ below.
