Although it’s called Kinsale, White Collar Boy are not from Cork. They’re a duo from Dublin, Gavin White and Mark Cummins and the six-track Kinsale EP is their first release proper. They’ve been dropping tracks on Soundcloud for about a year, all while holding a residency every second Thursday in Pygmalion in Dublin. ‘Long Walk Home’ is the track that sets them apart, coming across like a long-lost Screamadelica track that Primal Scream are kicking themselves about. It’s simple but will entice you in to the groove, if you haven’t already been lured in by the other slick tracks beforehand. For a debut (physical release), Kinsale is about as polished as you can get. As Nialler 9 pointed when in premiering the EP earlier this week, the duo hint at Hot Chip, particularly on the expansive, burgeoning ‘November’. But this is far from a copy-and-paste EP; other artists will look and listen to Kinsale and think, why didn’t we think of that? Download it from Bandcamp for €5, or for €10, buy it on 12″ vinyl, and listen to it the way it deserves to be heard. White Collar Boy launch the Kinsale EP in the Button Factory in Dublin tonight from 11pm. They’ll be joined onstage by Gemma Dunlovely Music, the Mighty Stef and a string quartet from the Trinity Orchestra.
