Brid O’Donovan is staging an exhibition of her live gig photography at the Quarter arts space in Cork City this Thursday, January 17. Here’s the Facebook event. You’ll be able to buy large prints of some of her work as well as postcard-sized images too. They’re really great – but I would say that, wouldn’t I? (DOI: we’re going out.) I asked Brid to share her five favourite bands that she’s photographed over the last year. Some of her picks will feature in the exhibition. The first band is below and the rest are just after the jump.

Ham Sandwich
These guys look like they are the best of friends off stage and that’s why I love photographing them. They have these great moments where they just have the craic with each other and that’s where the great shots lie – that moment of pure exhilaration.

jape

Jape
Jape is the man with the moves. Photographing him is pretty unpredictable and as well as being one of my favourite Irish musicians, he is someone I need to dance with at some point as well.

Shane, the lead singer’s facial expressions. Need I say anymore?

Time is a Thief
Time is a Thief’s live set is one of the most exciting around. Because you can tell that they sincerely love what they do, it makes them a pleasure to watch. And to photograph.

Honningbarna

Honningbarna
Anyone who has been to a Honningbarna gig knows why they feature on this list. To anyone who has not had the pleasure – it is because they are stark raving mad on stage and absolutely brilliant at what they do.
