niall colfer ep cover

I really like what I’ve heard so far from Niall Colfer‘s new EP Before the Night Goes. ‘Blew Away’ is a breezy acoustic tale, and a song that reminds me of one of my favourite Cork bands, Armoured Bear (who should have new music incoming soon). The new EP is due out tomorrow, and features four songs. The press release tells us: “Recorded at night time over an old man’s pub on the northside of Dublin, Before The Night Goes sees Niall grappling with issues of identity and regret as well as providing character studies of the people he sees everyday passing him by on the street.” The second track Colfer has made available is the radio-friendly ‘Easy Mind’, a lovely pop track that sounds perfect for the summer. Colfer released his debut album Finds on 1969 records in 2009. (Listen to it on Spotify.) He launches his new EP upstairs in Whelan’s tonight. It’s a full-band show with support from the excellent Biggles Flies Again, who is releasing his debut album in a couple weeks. If you’re not having a great day, this gig could make all your troubles float away.
