Dublin duo Lakker, aka Dara Smith and Ian McDonnell, have two releases set for release soon, which took me ages to figure out last night. It didn’t help that I was listening to the rather uncomfortable and unsettling ‘Preset NUMB’. The track is five minutes long, punctuated by shrill blasts of bleeps from the beginning. I think this is the type of track that might break Jack Torrance in The Shining, only adding to his maniacal thoughts. ‘Preset NUMB’, which you can download here, features on Lakker’s Deathmask EP, being released on Love Love Records. The label describes it thus: “This solid 3 tracker Deathmask combines Shrill melancholy with vegged-out techno grooves.” More on that here. Meanwhile, Lakker are also prepping the Coal Bath EP, the artwork of which is above, on the Candela Rising label. This is four tracks long and features a remix by DJ Skirt. You can preview that EP below – final track ‘Brood’ sounds immense.
