seasick steve

Stout Fest is the ingenious name for a new festival taking place at the Beamish & Crawford site in Cork city on the June bank holiday weekend. The star attraction is Seasick Steve’s appearance on Friday, May 31. He’s played Cork before, and apparently enjoyed the stout so much he’s returning to the city – he played the Savoy as part of Guiness’s Arthur’s Day a couple years back. He is headlining the Murphy’s 12 Bar Blues evening, which also features Hüsker Dü legend Grant Hart. Now that’s a lineup!! Here’s Seasick Steve on Later with Jools Holland last night.

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!!! On Saturday, June 1, at the questionably titled Murphy’s Rising, Delorentos and Windings will join forces for an evening that already has me salivating. The cream on top of this particularly mouthwatering pint is the mix of Young Wonder (new EP out May 6) and the Vincents. What a great lineup that is. Here’s the Choice Music Prize-winning third album from Delorentos, Little Sparks.

Finally on Sunday, June 2, the folk supergroup LAPD – Liam O’Flynn, Andy Irvine, Paddy Glackin and Dónal Lunny – headline the Murphy’s Traditions night. I don’t think they’ve brought down the band to Cork before so it’ll be cool to raise a glass to them.
