O Emperor played their first gig in Cork in ages on Friday night. To fill the Half Moon is sometimes a very tall order, but the group managed to draw all-comers on the back of their excellent new album, Vitreous, a rollicking ride through psych-rock territories. The support was ideal – Grave Lanterns complement the main act’s newfound sound perfectly. Paul Savage told me in an interview last week: “I do think we wanted something that was a little bit snappier and had a bit more punch to it. We were more confident in our recording and our playing.” It certainly seems as if the Cork fans have responded to that. All pictures after the jump by Brid O’Donovan.
