Dublin four piece Silverbacks released their debut album Lotion in October – it’s available as a pay-what-you-want download on Bandcamp. It’s a short, unassuming, lofi effort that recalls the disaffection which inspired so many early 90s bands. ‘Mermaid Massacre’ is our first taste of what’s next – and it doesn’t change the Silverbacks playbook too much. Musically it’s nonchalant, a slowly strummed offering. Lyricially, however, it’s anxious, built around the idea that “all the days are slipping away”. I listened to the track after hearing Damon Albarn’s new track ‘Everyday Robots‘ for the first time. I think they compliment each other quite nicely.
