Up until recent weeks I hadn’t been sure if Forbidden Fruit was going to be returning for 2014. Last year, the festival, held in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, seemed to get overshadowed by the inaugural Longitude festival in Marley Park, both in terms of lineup and excitement. But Forbidden Fruit has regrouped, announced its dates, Saturday and Sunday, May 31 and June 1, and now has revealed a very tasty lineup for Saturday. The first batch of acts to be announced for the first day of Forbidden Fruit are:

The Flaming Lips (Are they still one of the best live bands around considering their last album was pretty ‘out there’ even for Wayne et al? Probably.
Bell X1 (They never go hone, those boys)
Flying Lotus 3D Live Show (Following Kraftwerk into the world of 3D)
Fuck Buttons (That’s them up above, from last year’s Body & Soul. A pummelling live show)
Nils Frahm (Oh my, I’ve gone weak at the knees)
Young Knives (Are they still going?)
Vann Music (Been a supported of these lads for the past year so happy to see them here)

The first of Sunday’s acts will be announced tomorrow, Thursday, March 13.Tickets for Forbidden Fruit are onsale now. Early-bird ones have sold out, but day tickets are €54.50 and weekend tickets (no camping obviously, so those of us from down the country will have to keep a few bucks in the pocket for accommodation or try to befriend a Dubliner in Kilmainham) cost €99.50. That’s not including those nasty Ticketmaster fees. Here’s a Spotify playlist of the acts announced so far, with more being added in the coming months.
