For its tenth year, the Clonakilty International Guitar Festival had a stellar lineup over the weekend, from September 18-21. I was only able to make it down for the Saturday, but still managed to catch the Lost Brothers, Band of Clouds and Brian Casey, all of whom I’ve been waiting ages to see; I can’t believe I got to see them all in about four hours. On Saturday night, I saw two bands I’ve caught live plenty of times before, Elastic Sleep and Girl Band. Playing a slew of new songs in the alleyway of Fahy’s. It’s not quite Foo Fighters in the round, but it was still pretty cool for Elastic Sleep. Meanwhile, Girl Band won over punks old and new in Debarra’s as they proved yet again why they’re the best live band in the country. They play Limerick on Friday, Dublin on Saturday, and Cork on October 18. If you haven’t seen them before, you should do all you can to rectify the matter. ‘Lawman’ alone is worth it.
